Versatile semi-evergreen, nitrogen-fixing shrub growing to 8' tall. Prefers full sun and moist, peat, or sandy, acidic soils. Tolerates drought, wet sites, salt, erosion and high winds. Aromatic leaves when crushed. Best planted in groups as a border, screen, or hedge. It may be used in woodland gardens or on slopes and banks to help control erosion. The shrub suckers easily and may form colonies.
