Leaf: scale-like evergreen leaves
Autumn Foliage: evergreen
Fruit: rounded fruit about 1/4"

Eastern Red Cedar develops a dense pyramid shape making it excellent for windbreaks and screens. Give it full sun in an open space. If your planting site experiences heat, wind and salt, this should be a tolerant of these harsh conditions. Birds love its berries. Medium green foliage often with a reddish windburn during winters. The tree can withstand occasional flooding yet has good drought tolerance. The rounded fruit is gray or bluish-green in color about ¼" in diameter. This fruit resembles a berry but is actually a cone made of fused cone scales. Avoid planting near serviceberry due to apple-cedar rust disease that hosts on both.
