The Smooth Alder, Alnus serrulata, is a small, multi-stem tree growing to 10-20' that's great for a wildlife garden in a wet area. A tough native that flowers in March-April. Seeds are attractive to birds, and the roots fix nitrogen, improving local soil conditinos.
