Baltimore TreeKeepers – Young Tree Pruning Workshop II
Balto TreeKeepers Young Tree Pruning 2
Learn by doing! Work in small groups with people who enjoy being outdoors. Learn to perform minor pruning cuts that will help your tree develop healthy branch structure. (Participation may qualify towards Baltimore TreeKeepers Tree Pruning certification – www.baltimoretreetrust.org for details on the Baltimore TreeKeepers program.)
On Saturday, January 21st, 10 a.m., we will be pruning young London Plane trees growing along N. Linwood Ave in southeast Baltimore City. We will meet at the Prince of Peace Baptist Church, 600 N Linwood Ave 21205 and work south. Free parking is available at the church.
Volunteers helped us plant these trees four years ago and even tho we have pruned them since then, they are growing like crazy! Help prune them away from the street where they are getting damaged from the streetsweeper and other trucks. Our goal is to prune trees on both sides of four blocks of N Linwood Ave.
All pruning will be done with your feet-on-the-ground using hand tools. Due to the location of this activity, it may not be appropriate for young children. Rain date is Sunday, Jan 22th, 1–3pm.
Gloves, tools, and safety vests will be available for use but you may bring your own sharp, clean pruners and saws. City Forestry will pickup up the cuttings that we accumulate.
This workshop is part of the Baltimore TreeKeepers program – a series of free classes open to the public teaching tree stewardship and best urban forestry management practices. Certification as a Tree Planting Leader and a Tree Pruning Expert is available to those who complete the program requirements.
